Sexually Transmitted Diseases are serious and are often ignored. The infection is transmitted through sexual contact, including vaginal sex, oral sex and anal sex. As many of these diseases cause minimal symptoms and signs after infecting a person, people may only be aware of them when they develop more serious complications, such as Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) or sterility.
Untreated infected persons can also perpetuate the infections through the practice of unsafe sexual activities. While the most effective way to prevent STD is to have safe sex and avoid casual sex, sexually active people should also receive regular check-ups to allow early diagnosis and treatment for these infections.
