Cancer is caused by uncontrolled growth of body cells, with which the malignant cells invade and metastasize to different parts of the body. Specialists of medical oncology mainly treat cancer with medication, but also cooperate with other healthcare specialists such as clinical oncologists, surgeons, radiotherapists to fight cancers with patients.
What is prostate cancer
The prostate is located under the bladder and in front of the rectum, with urethra passing through the center. Prostate cancer stems from abnormal growth of prostate cells. In some cases, prostate cancer grows slowly with less impact on the body, but those faster ones may metastasize and be fatal.
Risk factors
Aging, family history (e.g. with gene mutation at BRCA 1 or BRCA 2), obesity, etc.
Common symptoms
Difficulty in urinating, urination is slow and not smooth, blood in urine; pain in lower back, pelvis and thigh, etc.
Diagnosis methods
Blood test, digital rectal examination, biopsy, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, etc.
Treatment methods
Hormonotherapy, surgical resection, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, etc.
Targeted therapy, immunotherapy will be also considered to treat and control cancer. Medication is also applied to relieve patients' discomfort caused by cancer.
