Hypertension in young adults

Hypertension in young adults

Hypertension in young adults is the hypertension (blood pressure above 14090 mmHg over a long period of time) diagnosed at age of 40 or below, which may be a result of problems in the endocrine system.

Impact on patients

Improper handling of hypertension may cause a variety of complications, which can be fatal. Common complications include coronary heart disease, heart failure, rupture of cerebral vessels, cerebral vascular embolism and decline in renal function.

Diagnosis and management of hypertension in young adults

Before deciding the treatment plan for hypertension, whether it is primary hypertension or caused by other endocrine diseases must be determined. Blood pressure will return to normal after treatment if endocrine problems in thyroid, adrenal glands, etc., are diagnosed, while general hypertension treatment is necessary if endocrine problem is ruled out.
